Treatment Services
ABA Treatment
ABA Treatment consists of an ABA Consultant providing developmental ABA based therapy. Most often this involves the consultant treating a child who is receiving other ABA therapy (in-home or clinic). The goal is for the therapist to baseline and probe new programs, update the child’s notebook, as well as offer parent coaching.
Intensive Treatment
The goal of intensive program is to provide intensive 1:1 therapy using the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). During therapy, the child will benefit from our various rooms (e.g., classroom, motor room, toy town, game room, etc.). The case Consultant will directly provide ABA treatment in order to appropriately provide program supervision and parent coaching. Within the ABA intensive program, the child will be provided with weekly relationship and social development, group activities and opportunities with other children.
Speech and Language Therapy
Speech Therapy consists of identifying and treating oral motor and feeding difficulties, language comprehension, and social pragmatic issues, alternative forms of communication (PECS, sign and output devices) as well as building functional communication skills.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy at KGH consists of identifying and treating sensory processing difficulties, motor planning/sequencing, apraxia, body tone, sensory integration dysfunction and regulation issues.
Developmental Therapy
Direct treatment working with the child in a one to one setting addressing developmentally appropriate goals created by the parents and therapist.
Educational Therapy – Academic Tutoring
Direct treatment in our study lounge providing students with academic support in any specific academic subject or remediation support on any areas of weakness.
Relationship & Social Development Treatment
Treatment geared at developing and strengthening relationship and social development as well as social cognition skills needed to feel and be successful with same-aged peers.
Executive Function (EF) Skills Treatment
The goal of this treatment is to strengthening all the processes that are directly involved with goal-directed behavior. Specific areas addressed include, planning and problem solving, self-monitoring, attention, working memory, flexibility and inhibition.
Social Dyad/Peer Play
This type of treatment addresses issues of social awareness, social engagement, as well as playing with another child or multiple children. Areas of focus ranges from turn taking, interactive play, to higher-level social skills such as negotiation, teamwork, and theory of mind.
School Shadowing
This service provides quality therapeutic support for your child in their educational setting. Therapists will attend school with your child and help implement cues, behavior plans, prompting, etc., to help increase socialization, communication as well as general class participation. Close communication with the child’s team and teacher is an area of focus as well.
Yoga Therapy
Individual relaxation yoga is available as a 1:1 session for children and adults. The goal is to ease anxiety and teach relaxation strategies. Individual goals for yoga sessions will be created by the parent/adult and therapist.
Music & Movement
The goal of this treatment is to use music and movement to increase sensory processing, auditory processing/comprehension, communication and motivation.
Family Support Services
Comprehensive Parent Training Program for parents with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
Our Comprehensive Parent Training Program educates and empowers parents to feel and be more successful with their child with ASD. This program meets for 2 hours once a week for 6 weeks (with other families) and then a consultant meets you and your child in your home for 1 hour a week for the following 3 weeks. The training is filled with practical information and parents finish the training program with an understanding in typical development, how to improve quality of life for themselves and their child, how to understand their child with ASD, decrease negative behaviors and promote positive, pro-social behaviors.
Parent Coaching
Parent coaching includes explanation and training that is relevant to their child in order to help support new skills and developments (e.g., communication, play, etc.) as well as address problematic behaviors. Recommended interventions and short-term goals are given as well as support, feedback and active coaching for the parents.
Social Work Support
Individual mental health treatment services are available for all ages as well as for the parents of children with special needs.
Marriage & Family Counseling Treatment
KGH offers individual and small group Marriage & Family Counseling Treatment.
Sibling Session
A sibling session addresses appropriate social engagement, play and communication with the child’s sibling. Many times, siblings do not know how to effectively communicate and engage their brother or sister. Furthermore, work helping the sibling better understand their brother or sister is also addressed.
Sibling Support Group – STARS (Siblings Turning Activities into Resourceful Support)
STARS is an unique support groups that meets once per week for 1 hour over an 8-week period. STARS provides a safe space for children 6-14 to feel encouraged to share their feelings about their life with a sibling with special needs. A licensed social worker will lead this group and will also provide information at an age-appropriate level about their sibling’s diagnosis to allow children to be better equipped to deal with peers’ questions, know the facts and see the big picture. Knowledge is power and comfort!
Individualized Material Making
This service provides a ‘helping hand’ creating individualized materials for your child. Some materials may include picture schedules, communication books, individualized pictures for communication, specific teaching materials, 1st/Then boards, bathroom sequence visuals, etc.
Language and Play Room Design
This service provides assessment and specific recommendations for creating the home environment to support the development of language and play skills. There is an emphasis on organization, communication and developmental need.
Consultation Services
Treatment Overview Consultation
The owner of KGH will evaluate your child’s current treatment program, including all disciplines (e.g., school, private therapies, etc.), spend some time with your child as well as the parents and then provide recommendations in order to maximize the benefit of your child’s treatment program.
ABA Program Supervision
An in-home program consultation provides update training to the in-home therapists, program changes and advances, new program instruction/recommendations and consultation on any specific behaviors.
School Consultation/IEP Support
KGH Consultation & Treatment, Inc. can observe a child in their current classroom or observe a potential classroom for appropriateness. A report documenting observations, inclusion recommendations and effective classroom strategies are given. KGH Consultation & Treatment, Inc. can also attend IEP Meetings to help create appropriate IEP goals and professional recommendations for appropriate placement.
Behavior Management (a.k.a. “Super Nanny” Support)
Consultation and parent support regarding behavior difficulties for all age ranges. Some examples include problems around eating, sleeping, getting dressed, non-compliance, aggression, talking-back, yelling/arguing, etc. The consultant will help you become successful at decreasing/eliminating negative/undesired behaviors as well as become successful at promoting pro-social, positive behaviors.
Consultation & Trainings for School Districts
KGH can provide wither formal training or consultation services to school districts in the theory and implementation of evidence-based treatment approaches and ABA as well as specific applications for kids with ASD in the classroom setting.
Social & Group Services
Parents And Tots: Activities Created Around Kids’ Engagement (PAT-A-CAKE)
PAT-A-CAKE is a fantastic opportunity for parents and their children ages 0-4 to work with a developmental/behavior therapist to learn fun, developmentally-based activities to promote parent-child relationship bonding and strengthening of social interactions. This group meets 1 time per week for 1 hour per session.
Music & Movement
The goal of this group is to use music & movement to increase sensory processing, communication and socialization. A variety of music & movement groups will be formed depending on age and socialization ability. This group meets 1 time per week for 1 hour.
Relaxation & Yoga
Yoga is a great way to easy anxiety, calm the fidgets and be social all at the same time. A variety of yoga groups will be formed depending on age and ability. The group meets 1 time per week from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on age of group.
Volcano Group
Does your child have intense feelings and explode like a volcano? This volcano group is appropriate for ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities and related emotional difficulties who need support with anger management, peer conflict and self-control. The group meets 1 time per week for 1 hour.
Say ‘NO’ to Bullying
This much needed group will define bullying, the differences between tattling and reporting and support and increase communication skills and assertiveness. This session is led by a Licensed Social Worker and will meet 1 hour per week.
Sensory Exploration Group
The sensory exploration group focuses on sensory exploration, sensory processing, body integration and fine and gross motor skills. This group meets 1 time per week for 1 hour per session and is led by an occupational therapist. Children ages 3-6 who may struggle with sensory experiences are encouraged to enroll.
Friendship Communication Group
The goal of this group is to incorporate language stimulation and functional communication skills in a peer group environment. Children ages 3-6 with apraxia and delayed speech and language would benefit from this group. Friendship Communication Group is led by a speech and language pathologist and will meet 1 time per week for 1 ½ hours.
Play Pals
Play pals is an interactive group for 3-6 year olds, targeting social language and friendship development. Participants in this group will come together and play in our toy town. Play Pals will be led by a developmental/behavior therapist. This group meets 1 time per week for 1 ½ hours.
Together at Play (TAP)
TAP is geared for children ages 5-9 with limited or emerging social relationship skills and social language skills by providing a nurturing environment to develop and enhance his/her social language, peer relationships and sensory regulation in a group environment. TAP is appropriate for children who struggle to express their thoughts and feelings independently and have had limited success with group activities. This group meets 1 time per week for 1 hour and is led by a developmental/behavior therapist.
Totally Awesome Social Kids (TASK)
TASK is geared for children ages 5-9 who need work mastering their social relationship skills and social language skills in a peer enriched environment. TASK is appropriate for children who can maintain regulation while independently expressing their thoughts and feelings. This group also meets 1 time per week for 1 ½ hours and is led by a developmental/behavior therapist.
Friends are Fun
The goals for this group include enhancing social and relationship development by increasing pragmatic language and conversation skills, social cognition, theory of mind skills and executive functioning skills. This group is designed for children 9-14 and meets 1 time per week for 1 ½ hours and is led by a developmental/behavior therapist.
Friday Night Fun! (available Friday Night) & Breakfast Club (available on Saturday Morning)
This fun group is designed for students ages 10-14 with high-functioning Autism/PDD, Asperger’s, Executive Functioning Deficits and/or Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities. Goals for this group include enhancing social and relationship development, facilitate social conversation between students and facilitate social engagement (e.g., small talk) in all activities. Each week different activities will be planned and several age-appropriate outings will be scheduled throughout the social group’s duration. There will be Peer Buddies (kids from local high schools) who will help support a nurturing environment. This group will meet for 1 ½ hours per week – outings may take longer.
Saturday Outings
Saturday Outings is for teens 14-18, to strengthen their socialization skills with other teens while doing what other teens do, hanging out. Each week, the teens will meet at different age-appropriate social location. Peer Buddies (kids from local high schools) will help support a comfortable and social building environment. This group will meet 1 time per week and vary in time depending on outing planned.
Life Skills Group
This group is for Pre-Teens and Teens who would benefit from a small group improving important life skills such as developing leisure skills, chores such as laundry (on site washer/dryer), reading & using train/bus schedules, independent skills, food preparation, purchasing/using money, etc. This group will meet 1 time per week for 1 ½ hours.
Executive Functioning (EF) Support Class
This small group will work together in our study lounge to learn how to increase important executive functioning skills which directly influence successful academic skills. For example, activities to increase the student’s understanding/planning of managing materials and space, study habits, breaking down assignments, time management, keeping assignment notebooks, graphic organizers, etc., will increase their EF skills as well as have a positive impact on their academics. This class will meet 1-2 times per week for 1 ½ hours, depending on age.
Multi-sensory Reading Class
The goal of this class is to teach reading, spelling and some writing skills to students who have been unsuccessful with traditional approaches and who are at risk for attaining reading success. The class will be taught using simultaneous multi-sensory instruction that is systematic and cumulative. There will be explicit instruction and diagnostic teaching. Progress will be constantly evaluated to guide further lessons. Areas of focus include phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This class will meet 1-2 times per week for 1-1 ½ hours, depending on age.
